What is the difference between SBA VetCert and Texas VetHUB?

SBA VetCert and Texas VetHUB are different programs run by different governments for different procurement ecosystems. VetCert is an SBA federal certification path for qualifying veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses pursuing federal opportunities. VetHUB is a Texas program focused on qualifying service-disabled veteran-owned businesses in the Texas state purchasing and subcontracting ecosystem.

SBA VetCert is federal

SBA states that certification can provide qualifying veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses access to federal contracting opportunities, including set-aside or sole-source opportunities where applicable.

Federal eligibility, size standards, ownership, control, and certification status are governed by SBA and the federal contracting rules.

Texas VetHUB is state-specific

Texas describes VetHUB as a certification program for qualifying service-disabled veteran-owned businesses intended to increase participation in state contracts and subcontracts.

The Texas Comptroller currently lists specific ownership, control, service-disabled-veteran, Texas residency/base, and size requirements. Those requirements are not interchangeable with federal VetCert.

Which one should a business pursue?

Choose based on the market you plan to sell into. Federal contracting goals point toward the federal certification and registration ecosystem. Texas state procurement goals point toward Texas vendor registration, VetHUB eligibility, and state bid systems.

Some businesses may pursue both, but each program should be verified independently and kept current.
